About The Crib
Yesterday
The Crib was envisioned to be an empowering transitional home for young, single parents in crisis situations. The program was designed to not only meet participants’ immediate physical needs, but also prepare them to provide creatively, intellectually, emotionally, and financially, for themselves and their children in the long term.
Founded in 2002 by Andrea Templeton, The Crib was first launched in
Today
The Crib is currently operating in St. Mary’s County,
We focus on parents with young children, because studies have shown that the first three years of a child’s life have a greater impact on their overall life experiences than any other period of their development. Few things contribute more to having opportunities to live healthy fulfilled lives than having a safe and stable childhood. The Crib is actively working to improve conditions for children through improving the health, education and well-being of their parents.
We work closely with our clients to help them take advantage of available services in the community, as well as providing unique services not offered elsewhere in the community. Core areas of focus are completing a GED or pursuing secondary education, employment development, financial planning, fitness and nutrition, self development, art and creative development.
Tomorrow
As The Crib grows and develops we will offer an expanded curriculum of classes and programs. Ultimately, The Crib plans to build a transitional home for parents and children. The home will include separate bedrooms for each parent and their children, as well as communal living and eating spaces.
The Crib’s transitional home will provide each resident with:
· Food, shelter, and a stable home environment for up to two years
· Regular access to healthcare
· Guidance about nutrition, fitness and other healthy lifestyle habits
· Training, support and counseling to develop parenting skills
· Education, financial planning, and job skills training
· Art workshops to encourage self-expression and self-esteem
